The Surry Seafood Co. - A Culinary Gem on the James River

Great location on the James River. Fantastic food, so obviously a good chef here. Loved the stuffed flounder, and hot crab dip. Rum punch hit the spot too. Service was excellent (Bo). It was HOT out out...restaurant let us have our service dog inside. Thank you! This restaurant was off the charts good.

Road here with a motorcycle group of friends. The hostess was great, very friendly. The waitress attentiveness, with a very positive attitude, and knowledge of the menu. She was extremely proactive, anticipated our needs, and handle requests with grace, all while maintaining a professional and friendly demeanor. The food was absolutely delicious and fresh. I particularly enjoyed the soft shell crab – it was amazing!! The restaurant had a great vibe – lively and energetic. We sat by a huge window and the views were beautiful and created a relaxing atmosphere. They had a good selection of drinks. I had a local IPA, I always try the local stuff. It was great. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who is in the area or passing through.

I wish we lived above Surry Seafood! (we live in NC) This was our third visit. How does it keep getting better?! Rockfish, lightly battered?! Perfection. Our server was so helpful and personable. She suggested a game for us to take with us for our family beach trip in another week.

We went to the Surry Seafood Co. Rrsterant for the first time Easter Sunday at about 12:00noon. We had called ahead to make sure they could accommodate seven people & they could. . Our waitress was fantastic. She took very good care of us.. The restaurant was very clean and in a beautiful location. We will be coming back and we will be telling others about your restaurant. Excellent food and a lovely view Lunch with a couple of lady friends was both delightful and delicious. We started with Blue Crab Puffs, crab soup and clam chowder. Not a single bite was left. Main courses included crab stuffed shrimp, bacon wrapped scallops and a shrimp po boy. I had a couple of different frozen cocktails as well. It was great food all around the table!

Can't beat the location. We couldn't eat outside because of the heat but the dining room was very comfortable. The bacon wrapped scallops were very good. The crab soup was excellent and hearty with the scoop of crab topping it. The ferry ride over added to this awesome afternoon!1

We had a nice early Father’s Day meal here. Beautiful view, great service and food. We had the crab dip and bacon wrapped scallops and crab soup as appetizers. My step mom said the soup was way too salty. (Other reviews said the same) I didn’t have any but you should decrease the salt and let people add it, if needed. It has so much crab, don’t waste that! Entrees were the seafood platter, stuffed shrimp, scallops and fish sandwich. Everyone was happy with the beaks and we enjoyed spending time with family!

Rating the restaurant: we were treated by a very friendly server/host, who offered us travelers some great local tips. The restaurant was casual, cute, and clean. Family friendly. Great view by the water. Excellent food. Rainbow trout, mahi mahi tacos, kids’ meals—all very good. And decent prices to boot! So glad we stopped by! Thanks for your hospitality!
